Bio"Raphael, you always bear the world's problems on your shoulders. It is an admirable quality when you are a protector of others. But you must realize that while at times you might not be my favorite student, it does not mean that you are my least favorite son. You are strong, passionate, and loyal to your fault. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (or simply Ninja Turtles, abbreviated TMNT, and officially known in the United Kingdom as Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles) are a team of four anthropomorphic turtle mutants, who are trained by their sensei, Master Splinter, to become skilled Ninja warriors. From their home in the sewers of Manhattan, they battle petty criminals, evil megalomaniacs, and alien invaders, all while remaining isolated from society at large. (Translation: They rock. Period.)
The team's anti-social bad boy, Raph has an aggressive nature and seldom hesitates to throw the first punch. His personality can be alternately fierce and sarcastic although this could be attributed to "growing pains" in his teenage years. He resents Leonardo at times because of his position of authority, although his brotherly love is fiercely established and his loyalty to Leo though sometimes shaken is vastly proven. Raph wears a red mask and wields a pair of sai.
The origin of Raphael's anger is not always fully explored, but in some incarnations appears to stem partly from the realization that they are the only creatures of their kind and ultimately alone. He also has a somewhat turbulent relationship with his brother Leonardo because he is the group leader. He is generally the most likely to experience extremes of emotion.
At the start of the 2007, CGI sequel TMNT, Raphael, growing increasingly frustrated and violent, has become a masked vigilante, the Nightwatcher, going to the surface at night and fighting crime in very brutal fashions.
